ULTIMATE CAMP
a sport specialty option at Campus Kids-New Jersey
July 23-August 3, 2012

Campus Kids-NJ offers a specialty program for campers who want to concentrate on learning Ultimate skills and strategies while also enjoying the fun and friends of a traditional sleep-away camp.

Ultimate (often called Ultimate Frisbee) is a sport that has been growing steadily in popularity throughout the country, and has always been a favorite at CK-NJ.  It's one of the most popular sport choices among campers at our camp and some campers and staff have joined Ultimate teams at their schools (or even started the teams themselves!).

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE IN THE ULTIMATE SPECIALTY?
Campus Kids-NJ campers who are Junior, Seniors or Super Seniors (meaning campers who are entering 7th grade or higher after the summer).  The program is co-ed.
Campers are regular members of camp "bunk groups": living in the dorm with their campmates and counselors, eating meals together and doing evening programs together.

WHEN IS THE ULTIMATE SPECIALTY?
It is being offered once this summer:
During camp weeks 5 & 6: July 23-August 3

WHAT IS THE ULTIMATE SPECIALTY?
It's a concentration for campers who want to learn advanced skills and strategies and who probably want to play competitively at home/school.
Campers enrolled in this specialty will spend at least half of their program activity time at camp in this activity.  For the other half they will sign up for activities in the Campus Kids tradition of "camper choice programming".  This will give them the opportunity to try other sports as well as fine arts, performing arts and swimming.

My favorite part of the CK Ultimate program was being able to practice everyday while still being able to do normal CK activities.  Not only was I able to play ultimate everyday, but I could do other amazing activities.  I would definitely sign up again!  I got better at ultimate, made some new friends, and had so much fun.  The CK Ultimate program was one of the best things that I have ever done at camp!  --from a camper

WHAT WILL WE DO DURING ULTIMATE SPECIALTY ACTIVITY PERIODS?
Under the direction of Ryan Belline, you will be instructed by experienced youth Ultimate coaches in higher level concepts such as marking, stack, zone, breakmark throw, effective cutting and much more.  You will also improve your forehand and backhand throws.  Your instructors will mix instruction with fun games so you can practice your new skills.  You'll play a whole lot of Ultimate, including a game or two under the lights of the turf field!  You'll also enjoy playing the 18-hole tree disc golf course at Blair Academy, as well as our Frisbee skills competitions (accuracy, distance, and creative games like "goal-timate").
This Ultimate Specialty program will maintain the philosophy of Campus Kids in which every camper is included at all times.
Remember that this sport is centered on lots of running, so you will be very active all day.

I really liked the block scheduling of the program as well as the variety of the drills and tactics used. There was a positive atmosphere from both counselors and campers alike.  --from a camper

WHO ARE THE STAFF FOR THE ULTIMATE SPECIALTY ACTIVITY PERIODS?
Ryan Belline leads this program.  Ryan has been at Campus Kids-NJ since he was a camper and has been a counselor and sports director.  He currently teaches in Westfield, NJ where he has created the Ultimate teams for both the middle schools and high school.  Ryan also organizes the Delaware Valley's Youth Team which is the current USA Ultimate Youth Club National Champion.  Ryan himself is an active player on some of the most competitive teams in our region.
Other staff are a combination of skilled CK-NJ counselors and guest coaches who will lead special skills clinics.

IS THIS JUST LIKE OUR NORMAL "ULTIMATE" ACTIVITY AT CAMP, JUST MORE OF IT?
No.  It's much more.  Not only will you spend a lot more time playing Ultimate than you would as a regular camper, but you will be working toward higher levels of personal skill and team strategy concepts.  It's lot of fun, but this is for campers who want to take their Ultimate seriously.

Ever since I started playing ultimate at Campus Kids in 2003, I could not get enough of the game's unique dynamic.  I am now lucky enough to have Ryan Belline as my coach, and as a female ultimate player, I have experienced a gracious welcome from both him and the entire ultimate community.  His expert advice and patient teaching helps shape each person into the best player he or she can be.  Ultimate is a fast-moving, fun, and spirited game that allows every type of person to succeed.  --from a camper

IS THIS THE ONLY ULTIMATE ACTIVITY GOING ON AT CAMPUS KIDS?
Definitely not.  Our regular Ultimate Frisbee activity will be taking place at camp all summer and campers who are not part of this specialty program will still have lots of opportunity to play, learn skills and participate in friendly tournaments.

WHAT DOES IT COST AND HOW DO I SIGN UP?
