There is a rope tied to two trees in the bowl. It stands at a whopping 30 feet high, and there is no net at the bottom. Well, maybe that was an exaggeration. It's about 3 feet off the ground, but that's not to say that successfully walking across it isn't extremely challenging.
Tightrope Todd instructs this activity. He teaches campers the importance of breathing deeply, and focusing on one point on the tree in front of them.
Campers line up by the tightrope and observe the technique of the people in front of them. Tightrope Todd tells them that when they feel like they are about to fall, to breathe in really deep and then release the breath slowly, which tightens up the core.
Tightrope Todd and an additional counselor, today it was Joanna and Sam, stand on each side of the camper for additional support.
Todd encourages them to come back at least twice a week, so they can really get the art of tightrope walking down pat.
Soon, they'll be able to play the harmonica and walk on the tightrope at the same time, like Todd here.
