Step Aside, Eminem!

Every year, new and exciting activities are brought to camp by the extremely talented counselors. And this year was no different as we had the introduction of Hip Hop and Rapping!

This activity has been a true expression of our campers thoughts and feelings as they put them down on paper to be performed. Hip Hop and Rapping started as just a simple opportunity for people to write and express about whatever has been on their mind. Topics that I have heard performed, as I took pictures and listened, included things such as friendships, school, sports, and what else but CAMP!  But as the summer has gone on, it has turned into a camp phenomenon.
To start, counselors Ben and Jesse lead the campers in a few "free style" exercises to get their minds working. First up, campers introduce themselves by rapping about where they're from, what they like to do, etc.

Next, the entire group participates in a version of charades, the difference is that in this game, you have to rap about the person or thing rather than acting it out.

Afterwards, everyone has the opportunity to write about what is on their mind. Because this is such an accepting enviroment, everyone is eager to pick up their pencils and start writing!

As the period draws to a close, everyone has the opportunity to perform their rap that they created in less than an hour!
As a special treat for the CK community, a few campers decided to perform their original raps in the Week 7 Talent accompanied by the amazing keyboard skills of counselor Al.
