The Ultimate Ultimate Frisbee Game!

Last week, Tom and I got invited to an Ultimate Frisbee game by Ryan Belline.  Ryan coaches the Westfield High School and Edison Intermediate School Ultimate Frisbee teams.  The match was Westfield versus Maplewood.  This was an extra special game.  First of all, both the high school and intermediate school teams were playing in the same game.  Also, many of the players were Campus Kids campers (no wonder why the team is so good, eh?).

The high school teams started the game, but the middle school team played several points in the middle of the game.  Because both teams were playing the game was meant to be played to 15.  The teams were evenly matched and the game started to go late.  As the evening set in and the light began to fade, time was called and it was decided by the coaches that the first team to 14 would win.  After several plays, Westfield scored the final point and was declared the winner.

It was really exciting to see everyone.  The CK-ers on the team included: Kevin Lakritz, Eric Weber, Emily Chan, Jibran Mieser, Matt Weintraub, Adam Blumstein, Zach Botos, Mandy Minken, Stevey Z and Jack Venezia.  Afterwards, a bunch of us met up for burritos at Qdoba.  A good time was had by all.  You can see some more photos from the game here

In other news, reunion invitations are going out this week and the online RSVP will be up on the website.  We are also starting to gather articles and pictures for the November/December issue of the Sundial.

Please send your entries to sundial@campuskids.com
or mail them to Campus Kids, PO Box 8, Madison, NJ 07940.

See you soon,

It's getting really cold!

So I got up this morning and it was really, really cold.  The smell of winter weather hit me as soon as I walked out the door.  The lawn was covered in frost and I had to bring in some plants I probably should have brought in last night.  I have to get the winter clothes out from the basement and get ready for the coming ski/snowboarding season (WOOT!).

Not much new to report today.  I mostly wanted to let everyone know that there is a new online photo game up on the CK-NJ page.  It's simple.  You look at the pictures and make up your own phrases to put in the dialogue bubbles.  The contest is open to all campers and staff.  The winners will be posted on November 28th.  You can click here to go right to the game.

Look forward to seeing your entries.

October

As you know, Tom and I work on getting camp ready for the upcoming summer every day.  While I sit here and continue to work on the new improved online tour of CK-NJ (which can be viewed here), I keep thinking that it's only October and June is a LONG time from now.  No camp for months!  Just me and Tom.  No announcements, no snack time (though Vanessa did bake us some nice biscotti the other day), no clubs, no activities...

Needless to say, I can't wait to see you all at the reunion.  I want to talk about camp to people who know what shoe golf is and appreciate the delicacy known as Frito pie.  I took this pic on the first settling in day of the summer.  It seems so long ago and I guess I am just really missing today.

Look forward to seeing you all soon.  Be on the lookout for your reunion invitation in the mail.  You'll soon be able to RSVP on the New Jersey camp website.

P.S.  I was thinking it would be really neat to see your Halloween costumes.  I'd like to post a gallery of CK-NJ campers in their costumes and maybe even make some kind of contest out of it.  Email your pics to jeremy@campuskids.com

What if we had a Week 9?

That was the question today as we had a brainstorming meeting over at Angie's, the unofficial second CK-NJ office (on Main St. in Chatham, where many great camp ideas have been born).  Jeremy, Ryan and I did some serious talking about a fun idea that's been kicking around for a while: WEEK NINE.  After the regular 8-week camp season is over, we're thinking of offering a week-long program that would be like an extended Weekend Adventure.  It would be for campers entering 7th grade or older and would be a small travel program.  We've got lots of ideas for it and we'll share them on the website over the coming weeks.  If YOU have any ideas, let us know!

Camp People...

Hey, Jeremy here.  I just want to thank everyone who came out to the open house on the 28th.  It was so great to see so many of you!  I had a lot of fun despite the rain.  The new facilities are exciting but seeing all these camp people together was even better.  Honestly, I miss you guys.  During most of the school year, it's just me and Tom working in the office.  Although we have a great time working together, it doesn't ever feel like camp until we are around all you camp people.

I've been working on updating the online tour of camp for new families.  It will be done sometime this week.  In the process, I've looked at hundreds, maybe thousands of pictures from last summer.  While browsing through them, you can't help but think that camp people are awesome.  We've shared a lot of good times together and have so many great stories from camp that regular people just don't get.  You've been to Campus Kids, so I know you know what I am talking about here. As excited as I am about the move to Blair Academy and all the new facilities, the best part of camp is all of you campers and counselors coming back to make it all happen again!  This summer of 2009 will of course be the best ever.  We say that every year and every year we mean it.  Camp just keeps getting better and better because every year our camp family gets bigger as we welcome new staff and campers.   As I said before, it was great to see you and I can't wait to see you all at the camp reunion.

Anyway, I've posted some pics here that made me chuckle.  Who knows... maybe I'll do another entry of funny pictures from the summer.  There are sure to be some that would make you giggle too!

By the way, it's not too late to get your own gallery on the website.  If you want your pictures on the Campus Kids-NJ website email me at jeremy@campuskids.com
