An Idea That Never Gets Old
Almost every time we tell someone about our
"weekday sleep-away camp" they assume it's a new idea.
Well it's actually 22 years old, but it seems to be the kind of idea
that is still fresh and new.
That's probably because it's so
different from most traditional camps. Everyone seems to be
curious about how it works. They wonder what it's like for
campers when it's time to return to camp on Monday mornings.
Good question.
You
would think, logically, that it's hard for kids to go back and forth
between camp and home. But this morning we saw once again that
it really isn't. In fact, it's fun and exciting and even adds to
the energy of camp. Campers are really enthusiastic about camp,
but they are also glad to see their families for a couple of days, and
then they are super excited to get back to camp Monday morning.
You can tell by the smiles and energy as they get off the buses.
And within just a few minutes, bunk groups are reunited and activities
are underway again. It feels like we never left.
I
just came back from a Monday night bunk meeting after a full day of
camp activities. Everyone had spent time with their families and
everyone had just had a spectacular day at camp. Our system may
not be for everyone, but for our campers and their parents, it works
great and offers the type of choices they can't find anywhere else.
Campus Kids is about choices and thinking outside of the
traditonal "box". If you haven't visited us, you really should.
The Weekday Sleep-Away Camp is really something to see.
